NFT Nutrient Film Technique

Grow tanks are often referred to as 'pure hydroponics' because virtually no growing medium is used and roots benefit from unrestricted access to oxygen. Nutrient solution is constantly pumped up from the reservoir to the roots in the planting channel and flows back into the reservoir ready to be passed over the roots again. There is zero waste as the only growing medium used is the rockwool block the plants were started in. This means there's less chance of disease and less waste material to throw away at the end of the season. The constant supply of water and nutrients directly to the roots combined with unlimited access to oxygen means plants are healthier, faster growing and produce 3x more yield than if grown using traditional soil methods. You get healthier plants as they are never under-fed or over-watered and there is no build up of salts in the root zone. Get more out of a small space as Gro-Tanks are just 20cm tall and there's a system for every tent size!

What plants can be grown with NFT?

What Plants can be Grown in NFT Channels. NFT channels are primarily used to grow leafy green plants with a short growth period. Bibb and leaf type lettuce is an ideal plant for such a system but you can grow other leafy green plants such as spinach, broccoli Raab, and certain herbs.

How often should I water NFT?

Watering cycles need to be frequent and it will be up to you to determine what that takes. Some NFT growers leave their systems on continuously. To be safe, you could begin watering every half hour and ease off until you find the perfect point. Most growers opt for 1 minute on / 5-10 mins off.
